Susan Maria Sica won the Senior Epee British Champioships in London!
The athlete of the S.S. Lazio Scherma fencing club (Scuola di Scherma Emmanuele F.M. Emanuele ) obtained the gold medal in London and the title Epee Senior British Champion 2019.
A competition led perfectly; 6 victories in the and an excellent direct elimination.
Number 1 after poules, Susan skipped the first bout and fenced directly in the T32, against Sarah Spice 15/6, Abigail Watkins 15/5 from Malvern Hills Sword Fencing, Elsa Phillipson (Raf Fmencing Union) 15/4, Kerenza Bryson (Plymouth Fencing Club) 15/3.
The final agaist Mary Cohen from Greater Manchester Fencing finished 15/12, with Susan’s victory.
Mary Cohen is a well known name in British fencing: three times British Champion (2007, 2011 and 2018), individual bronze in the 2014 Commonwealth games and gold in the team event in 2018…. Children’s doctor and finally daughter of a writer we know and love, Richard Cohen!
At the Palariccia Salle a copy of his book “By the sword” is available for loan. A must read for all fencing fans!
